Birth to 2 years

Congratulations on the birth of your new baby!

Your midwife will continue to support you in the first few weeks after your baby arrives. Your care will then pass to the health visiting team.

In the first 42 days you need to register your baby’s birth. See Birth registration | East Sussex County Council.

Health visiting

Your health visiting team will call you when your baby is 4 to 9 days old to offer support with feeding.

We will contact you again at:

  • 10 to 14 days - to offer a new birth visit
  • 6 to 8 weeks - to see how you and your family are doing and invite you to the Understanding your baby post-natal group. To find out more, see the What's on guide for your area.
  • 10 to 12 months and 27 months - to see how your child is developing

We will visit you at home or via appointments at family hubs.

Advice from your health visiting team

You can contact your health visitor for support and advice until your child starts school. This can include advice about sleep, toileting and help to access other services to meet your family’s needs.
