Mental wellbeing for you and your child
Being a parent can be exciting, but it's also overwhelming at times. Your mental wellbeing is important for you and your baby.
Your health visiting team is here for you, your partner and your child. Every time we talk, we’ll ask how you’re feeling and how you’re finding being a parent.
What support can you get?
We offer free support for your mental health and relationship with your baby:
- Emotional wellbeing visits
You can talk openly about anything that’s hard for you, and we’ll listen without judgement. We can help with easy strategies for stress, mindfulness, self-care, lifestyle changes, and small ways to feel happier. At home or in a family hub. - One-to-one counselling
Many parents struggle after having a baby, and sharing feelings can really help. Postnatal depression and anxiety are common. We’re here if you feel low, overwhelmed, or just need someone to listen. - 'Time for Me' groups
A supportive group for mums feeling low or anxious after birth and up until your child turns two. Connect with others and take time for yourself while your child is in the crèche. - Bonding support
Sometimes our birth or life experiences can influence how we respond as parents. We’ll work with you to understand how these experiences may affect you and your relationship with your baby. We’ll use tailored support such as Incredible Years, therapy and video guidance. We’ll help you notice your strengths and understand your baby’s signals.
If you have older children, you may also want to explore support options for young people. See what offers are available by visiting: Mental health support for young people.
